Requirements
Some important criteria you need to meet in order to be considered as a franchise prospect are:
- You must commit to being a full-time, on premises owner/operator
- You must be able to provide the initial investment required to open a store
We do not offer financing. The estimated cost to open a store is from $209,750
- $299,295
- You must meet the minimum financial requirement of $250,000 in net worth with liquid assets of $80,000

Papa Murphy's™ has a corporate staff dedicated to assisting franchisees. This staff includes Director of Franchise Operations and Franchise Project Managers who provide the following services:
- Weekly phone contact, 800 number, and quick response to questions and problems
- Regularly scheduled store visits
- Periodic full-day visitation reports
- Operator Reviews to assist franchisees with their business performance
- On-site support during new store openings
- Operations Manual with regular updates
- Bi-Monthly newsletters
- Franchise convention, manager workshops, and advisory board meetings
- Menu mix and ideal food cost tracking
- Assist franchisees with controlling food and labor controls
- Store accounting system and cash controls
- Breakeven analysis for individual stores
- Sales tracking for the system, the market, and individual stores
Papa Murphy's offers extensive training for new franchise owners,
including in-store skill training and structured classroom training
at our home office in Vancouver, Washington. The Training Department
provides classes and workshops to develop and refine manager skills
as well as multi-media training programs and materials to effectively
train hourly employees.
The department also conducts field training workshops to introduce
new products, additions or changes in operational systems and
development topics.
Papa Murphy's™ Marketing Department provides assistance
and expertise in every aspect of franchise marketing.
GRAND OPENINGS We offer complete support in design
and implementation of a grand opening marketing plan.
LOCAL STORE MARKETING Every Papa Murphy's™ pizza
franchise benefits from our field marketing staff, which provides
marketing, advertising, and local promotions, direction ans assistance.
GRAPHICS AND PRODUCTION We provide an on-line graphics
standard ad kit to assist with production of ads. For custom
requirements, we have established a relationship with an experienced
graphics team dedicated to serving Papa Murphy's franchisees.
DESIGNATED MARKET AREAS (DMA) CO-OPS Our franchise owners have joined together
to run advertising schedules in over 40 television markets.
Papa Murphy's marketing provides experienced Co-op consultation
in the area of marketing plans and execution, advertising agency
management and media buying.
Will Papa Murphy’s find me a location?
We have a staff of full time experienced real estate managers that evaluate potential sites for our franchisees. Papa Murphy’s must approve any site. As the franchisee, the final site selection is yours.
What is the initial franchise fee and how is it payable?
The franchise fee is $25,000 for your first store and is payable before training begins. On subsequent stores the franchise fee is $15,000.
Is Financing Available?
Papa Murphy’s does not have financing for franchisees. Papa Murphy’s does work with a number of preferred lenders for SBA loans. Our finance department can help direct you to an SBA lender.
What are the on-going fees paid to Papa Murphy’s?
The Royalty Fee is 5% of net sales per week. Additionally, there is an Advertising and Development Fee of 1% of net sales per week.
How long does it take to open a store?
It depends on a number of factors, the biggest variable is the availability of quality sites. On average, once a Franchise Agreement is signed, a store can be opened within seven months, but may take longer.
Where do I order my food products?
Papa Murphy’s has a national contract with a major food distributor that will deliver your products to your location. We have a professional purchasing department that insures our franchisees pay the lowest possible prices for our products.
What about new product development?
We believe in keeping our business simple and executing the concept consistently. We pride ourselves on doing what we do better than anyone else. We are clearly focused on providing the highest quality pizza for the best price to our customers and always strive to improve. We continue to look for new products and procedures to maximize sales, profitability and give our customers outstanding value.
Do I have to actively work the business?
YES. This is not a passive investment. Our franchise owners are actively involved in the business. The active involved owner operator is one of the major strengths of the Papa Murphy’s system.
What is the profile of a successful Papa Murphy’s franchisee?
Papa Murphy’s has over 300 different franchise owners who have diverse backgrounds and business experiences. Many of our existing franchise owners were once our pizza buying customers that were attracted by the quality of our products and simplicity of the operation. A prospective franchisee must be willing to work hard, be committed to excellent customer service, be a team player and have the drive to succeed and control their own financial future.
Why are some markets closed and just specific markets available?
The number of owners and stores in a market area are determined by the population,
demographic and geographic studies. Once we have recruited the number of owners that
a market requires, we then determine that market to be closed so that the existing owners
may have the opportunity to operate multiple units and build the market successfully.
The markets which are available require additional franchise owners to complete
development.
